About
Respite

Respite is short-term relief care which allows primary caregivers a break from the on-going demands of caring for one or more individuals with special needs. The goal of respite is to prevent family exhaustion (emotional, physical and financial) and to reduce the risk of out-of-home placement.
The respite program develops and implements family-centered
respite care provider trainings to create a pool of qualified
individuals to support families of children with developmental
disabilities living in Multnomah and Clackamas Counties. The primary
goal of the respite care provider training program is to expand the
number of qualified respite care provider options for families
through provision of competency-based respite care provider training
curriculum, supportive training tools and modules that align with
current rules, regulations, and philosophies. Qualified providers
will be networked and provided with on-going training opportunities
and notification to assure required certifications and background
checks are up to date.
Our Respite Providers
The Arc of Multnomah-Clackamas completes background checks on all respite providers. Providers are also required to have current CPR and 1st Aid certification as well as complete on-going trainings provided by The Arc. Our respite providers are Independent Contractors, meaning that families will interview and select their own respite provider and will negotiate hourly fees. Call The Arc if you need help
at 503-935-5240.
