About
Respite

Respite is short-term relief care which allows primary caregivers a break from the on-going demands of caring for one or more individuals with special needs. The goal of respite is to prevent family exhaustion (emotional, physical and financial) and to reduce the risk of out-of-home placement.
The respite program at The Arc serves families and caregivers who have children with developmental disabilities birth through age 18 (if respite is needed for adult with disabilities, please contact us). Families who register with the program will gain access to a roster of screened and trained respite providers.
Our Respite Providers
The Arc of Multnomah-Clackamas completes background checks on all respite providers. Providers are also required to have current CPR and 1st Aid certification as well as complete on-going trainings provided by The Arc. Our respite providers are Independent Contractors, meaning that families will interview and select their own respite provider and will negotiate hourly fees. The average cost for respite is $10/hour, but this can sometimes be negotiated. Call The Arc if you need help.
*If you are interested in becoming a respite provider, please contact Rachael Torchia at the contact information listed below.
