Erik and puppy

Erik, a skill-training client with The Arc of Multnomah - Clackamas, chooses volunteerism as one of his skill training activities. Erik receives an important benefit from volunteering at a local animal shelter. Before he took on this responsibility, he had too much energy and time on his hands. Now he spends them on caring for the pets – “A great exchange”, says Dow Hokoana, field supervisor at the animal shelter, since the dogs “also have too much energy and time.” Read more about how the Arc enriches lives

Membership: The Foundation of Our Future

The Arc of Multnomah - Clackamas, a local chapter of The Arc of the United States, is a member-based advocacy organization. Your support enables The Arc to:

  • Offer guidance to those who need help and those who want to help
  • Monitor national progress made in the area of inclusion, such as education, employment, community living and recreation
  • Make the public aware of the needs, rights and abilities of people with mental retardation and related developmental disabilities
  • Encourage progressive legislation
  • Develop and promote effective programs and services
  • Promote and apply research to enhance independence
  • Raise public awareness on precautions that can be taken to prevent mental retardation, including fetal alcohol syndrome and other alcohol related birth defects
